Why are mosses small?

I just took a test at school and one of the questions was "Why are mosses small and live in damp places?" I anwered it thoroughly and stated that mosses are usually small because they lack vascular tissues and have to obtain water by diffusion, and therefore they are small and have to live in damp places (where there is a sufficient amount of water) Was that correct?
