Is this a valid reason for my boyfriend leaving me?

I got ually aulted by a male colleague at work, I was to terrified to say anything at the time but eventually it came out into the open, my boss didnt believe me and insisted I apologise to my colleague for making stuff up so I had to leave my job! My boyfriend of three years told me he knew something was up with me before it all came out and that if i didnt tell him that then what else hadnt I told him? and he subsequently left me. Is this valid?
