Is Denver, Co, really a dangerous place to visit? With shootings and gangs.?

Everytime I turn on the news, some athlete is getting shot up in Denver, Colorado. Example, Joey Porter, of the Miami Dolphins, got shot in his , Darren Williams, of the Denver Broncos, got killed on New Years Day of 2008 and Julius Hodge of the Denver Nuggets, got shot on the highway. Im thinking about going there for a few days on vacation, but Im afraid I might get shot. Is Denver really dangerous?
