Confusing situation...... please help, and please take time to read it.......?

ok so i've liked this girl for a lonng time. and everybody knows and she does too. we are best friends and are like extremely close. we Talk all the time at school over txt after school all the time. well this friend of mine was trying to help us get into a relationship, and the girl i like kept being really indecisive, i was supposedly on a yes and no scale and was extremely close to convincing her. and supposedly she did like me too. well recently the friend who i look to completely demotivates me now, me and my crush still talk all the time and we hang out all the time still, yesterday we went ice skating with friends , held hands kind of, and she let me lay on her lap. but now the conversations we have are a lot more serious and we tend to talk about my problems. So now the friend who i look to doesn't tell me anything anymore, and it might be due to her dating situation. There's a ball coming up in a month and valentines day soon. i really want to ask her to it, but im not sure, what to do anymore, i dont know if she still likes me or what. please give me some advice... thanks
